Updated Cottage with a Touch of Craftsman

These clients had a compact home lacking a coordinated feel. With a minimal budget they wanted as much bang-for-the-buck as they could get! Some expressed needs for this project were the following: Retain the open kitchen but include practical cooking solutions and a comfortable space to entertain, update appliances and finishes, create a cohesive first floor incorporating color, and include a drop zone and bench seating with functional storage.

There was no room for expansion of this home (due to zoning or budget) so renovations would need to remain within the existing footprint. Smart cabinetry designs and creative in-field modifications, like those at the pantry cabinet and underside of the staircase, maximize usable storage and preserve the clean lines created by the shaker doors. A classic blue base cabinet color would become a theme throughout the first floor and tie spaces together while lighter white wall & tall cabinets would visually enlarge the space. The microwave has its own place off the counter so that a new decorative chimney hood and glass cabinets become the focal point of the kitchen. The previously wasted space at the back side of the peninsula becomes the perfect pet space, hiding in plain sight.

The success of this project lies in the thoughtful attention to detail in the planning and the meticulous craftsmanship in execution.
