Porch in the Trees
These Clients desired a enclosed screen porch to expand their living space into the outdoors. They hoped to feel like their were in the trees, but not to lose any of the large trees on the property. additional goals were to have the new porch tie into a outdoor fire pit area as well as the rest of the yard.
The shape of the new porch remained a simple, uncomplicated square. The ample size now allows for entertaining, dining and socializing. Grill space on the enlarged, side stair landing permits the grill-master to socialize with people on the porch or at the fire pit. The soaring single-pitch sloped roof achieves the goal of feeling like one is in the trees. It also simplifies the intersection of rooflines while maintain that both roofs are weather tight.
The two large trees in concern remained and the careful placement and excavation for the porch footings will help them to thrive. Because the topography falls so quickly, storage space was created under the porch for the warehousing of out-of-season furniture.
