Palisades Kitchen
The objectives of this renovation project were to increase the size of the home’s first floor to include a gourmet kitchen with enough space for two cooks and a secondary entrance through a mud room. A one story addition was constructed to fulfill the clients’ needs. The biggest challenge of construction was removing a structural corner of the brick home, which was resolved with two intersecting steel beams that lent themselves to the decorative coffered ceiling. The new expanded kitchen has ample counter space, plenty of cabinet storage, a large island with a prep sink and seating, and a desk area. The clients chose distressed painted cabinets and a farm sink to uphold the traditional style of their house. The kitchen’s open floor plan is functional for cooking, informal dining, and entertaining. A new mud room, adjacent to the kitchen, provides efficient storage for coats and shoes through an informal secondary entry.
