Master Suite Addition
We were delighted to have these clients come back to us for another round of work on their home. With their family now grown, they determined that this house was their forever home which meant that there were a few more renovations to complete to make this house enjoyable them now, as well as for their future retirement.
The house was a 60s split foyer where most of the living was on the upper level. While the overall layout of the house suited these empty nesters, the hall and master bathrooms were small and dated and the master bedroom did not fit a king size bed nor have enough closet space. The deck outside the kitchen was in a state of disrepair and the owner’s desired to have a connection from the master bedroom to a new deck. On the lower level, head height was 7’6” and during band practice, sound traveled upstairs easily. The goals was to rework the existing spaces, creating an addition only as necessary to gain a master, big enough for a king and that truly felt like a retreat. The master bathroom should house a soaking tub, large shower with a bench and room for two sinks in the vanity.
The interior space was rethought creating the opportunity to use the space from the existing master bedroom to encompass a spacious master bath and enlarged hall bath. A two-story addition to the rear would allow the large master suite that the clients always wanted. High vaulted ceilings, large windows mimicking the ceiling shape, and sliding glass doors to the new deck bring in a great amount of natural light which compliments the white shiplap on the ceiling–a real retreat for our clients.
In the master bathroom, whether the client wants to sit in their soaking tub or marble tiled sit-in shower, the new space allows for both options. This master bath also includes ample storage, a large vanity and a heated towel bar that was essential for them.
A new grand-sized deck accommodates different areas for grilling, dining, and lounging that is perfect for entertaining. By designing two points of access to the deck, from both the existing kitchen and the new master suite, it allows multiple entry points which was important to the client. The modern cable railing made of stainless-steel compliments the architecture of the home while creating a seamless transition between the created space and the natural beauty of the surrounding trees.
