DC Condo Rennovation

The owner wanted to update this one bedroom condo to become a comfortable weekend retreat. A luxurious shower, unique detailing, an open feel for entertaining and a contemporary flair were a must.

The plan was only slightly rearranged to dedicate more space to the bathroom and cut down on traffic patterns.  This allowed for the spacious shower and the addition of storage space in the vanity cabinets.  Both pocket and barn doors were used to eliminate door swings taking up precious square footage.  The wall opening from the kitchen to the dining space was enlarged and an eat-at counter installed.Custom cabinets were constructed in the kitchen to match the existing and allow for modification of the kitchen layout.  The innovative use of stainless steel tile as the backsplash brings a greater shine to the kitchen and introduces an industrial feel.  This, contrasted against the rich warm cherry wood, merges old with new and creates the updated look the owner sought.

The balance of industrial, contemporary and luxury is a delicate one.  This renovation exemplifies style and provides practical solutions for comfortable living.  The distinctive features delight the owner while serving a purpose fulfilling the old adage that form does follow function.
