Bethesda Two Story Addition – 2015 CotY Winner

Retention of character was first and foremost in this homeowner’s mind while the need for space was driving the change. The family was expanding and desired to stay in the neighborhood, but zoning regulations and an odd shaped lot would prove to be the biggest challenges.

Adding space both up and out would achieve the homeowner’s space requirements and attention to detail would match their vision.

A five foot addition to the kitchen and a ten foot addition to the remainder of the first floor would provide the necessary space. On the second floor, the additional space to the rear was replicated while a third addition to the front would provide the space necessary for four bedrooms and two baths. A small gabled dormer over the front door was expanded with a new shed roof.  ample counter space, increased work zones and an eat-in counter for informal dining or casual conversation.

The ultimate measure of project success is being able to realize the customer’s vision of a whole home renovation on time, in character and within budget. From the first set of drawings to the final brush stroke, the end goal was to change how this family utilizes their space.
